DĂ©bora, a journalist from Buenos Aires, receives news that the mayor of a town in the province of Buenos Aires, PatacĂłn, has been murdered. She senses that an uprising is about to erupt there after the assassination, so she takes the initiative to go cover the event. Once there, she discovers the place is split in two: PatacĂłn, the traditional town, and Mala Muerte, where those who were cast out for being âdifferentâ ended up. When she tries to cross into Mala Muerte, she is stopped, and introduced to Chief Moreira, who threatens her and warns her not to meddle where she isnât wanted. Ignoring Moreiraâs threat, she crosses into Mala Muerte and meets Lucero, the leader of the rebellion, who is believed to be the mayorâs killer. He explains what Mala Muerte means to them, and everything they have suffered for being expelled. After this, DĂ©bora must choose: tell the story according to the chiefâs version, or align herself with Luceroâs perspective and uphold his narrative.
