She is perhaps the best-known American in Germany: entertainer Gayle Tufts. Raised in Brockton, Massachusettsâher mother was a supermarket cashier and her father a bartenderâshe had her first big moment on stage as a child. Later, she fell in love with Berlin, and she has now lived there for more than 30 years. Partly, but not solely, because of U.S. President Donald Trumpâs first term in office, she applied for German citizenship in 2017.
